On Thursday, July 31, Las Cruces police issued 28 citations to motorists who failed to clear the intersection during their green light cycle. As seen in this photo, taken from a drone, the intersection of Lohman Avenue and Telshor Boulevard is often plagued by motorists who pass through a portion of the intersection before becoming bogged down and blocking cross-traffic.
The Las Cruces Police Department’s Traffic Unit issued 46 citations Thursday during a one-hour enforcement operation at the intersection of Lohman Avenue and Telshor Boulevard.
Most of the traffic citations – 28 of them – were issued to drivers who failed to clear the intersection during their green light cycle. When vehicles fail to clear the intersection, they are essentially preventing cross-traffic, motorists who have a green light, from passing through the intersection.
Other citations issued Thursday included:
- 7 for no insurance
- 5 for failure to provide proof of insurance
- 2 for failure to yield right of way
- 4 for miscellaneous traffic infractions
The intersection of Lohman Avenue and Telshor Boulevard is the busiest in Las Cruces and is often plagued by motorists who pass through a portion of the intersection before becoming bogged down and blocking cross-traffic.
Before entering an intersection on a green light, drivers should make sure they can safely clear it without stopping short.
City Ordinance 27-12-6-7.2 states, “No driver shall enter an intersection or a marked crosswalk unless there is sufficient space on the other side of the intersection or crosswalk to accommodate the vehicle he is operating without obstructing the passage of other vehicles or pedestrians.” The City also had ordinances that prohibit stopping and blocking the flow of traffic.
The traffic enforcement operation began at 12:15 p.m. Thursday, July 31, 2025, and lasted about one hour.
